Meditation

Scripture
"For God so loved the world
that he gave his only Son,
that whoever believes in
him shall not perish
but have eternal life."
John 3:16

Prayer

O blessed Jesus, grant us by virtue of thy cross and bitter passion, cheerfully to submit to and willingly to embrace all the trials and difficulties of this our earthly pilgrimage, and may we be always ready to take up our cross daily and follow thee.

In the shadow of the Cross,
Let us linger, Lord, with Thee,
May I never forget Thy sorrow
Or Thy pain and agony.
Would I might have saved Thy suffering,
There upon the cruel tree,
Cleanse Thy wounds and give Thee comfort,
Quench Thy thirst and set Thee free.
In Thy love you bore the anguish,
All the pain and mockery,
Bore it bravely without murmur,
On the Cross of Calvary.
How I thank Thee, how I praise Thee,
That you died to set me free,
May I never fail to follow,
In the path you made for me.
O matchless Grace, redeeming Love,
Sent to us by God above,
Help us spread the tidings o'er,
From sea to sea and shore to shore.
As we daily seek to follow,
May we count all else but loss,
May we linger ever faithful,
In the shadow of the cross.
