There are crosses of silver,
And crosses of gold,
Crosses that sparkle with jewels they hold,
Crosses of ivory, crosses of brass,
Bartered and sold to people who pass.
Crosses of stone and crosses of wood,
Made of most anything, substantial and good.
But the cross of our Saviour
Was hewn from a tree,
Blood stains were its jewels
On dark Calvary.
In it were nail marks
By evil men driven,
As they left Him to die there
His hands and feet riven.
This cross, how we treasure,
The sacrifice made,
For your sins and my sins,
The price that was paid.
This cross is the dearest,
Most Sacred of all.
In humblest reverence,
Before it we fall.
