Scripture
"As
they
led
him
away,
they
seized
Simon
from
Cyrene,
who
was
on
his
way
in
from
the
country,
and
put
the
cross
on
him
and
made
him
carry
it
behind
Jesus."
Luke 23:26

Prayer
Oh Jesus! I thank
thee,
that
thou
has
permitted
me
to
suffer
with
thee,
may
it
be
my
privilege
to
bear
my
cross,
may
I
glory
in
nothing
else;
by
it
may
the
world
be
crucified
unto
me,
and
I
unto
the
world,
may
I
never
shrink
from
suffering,
but
rather
rejoice,
if
I
be
counted
worthy
to
suffer
for
thy
name’s
sake.

A lowly man, of whom little had been seen,
Was the dark skinned man, his country Cyrene,
It may have been only curiosity aroused,
That caused him to join the jostling crowd,
That surrounded a man, who was bearing a cross,
If he knew Him not, it was his loss.
On him the cross of Jesus was laid,
When He had fallen beneath its load,
What a privilege was his, to ease His care,
That now was greater than He could bear,
As He struggled and toiled by Calvary's Hill
(The horror of it all, staggers us still).
After two thousand years, this name lingers on,
Though in that day, no laurels he won,
We think of him still, as he toiled on the road,
To ease Christ's burden and carry His load.
May we follow his pattern, other's burdens to share,
That struggle with loads too great to bear.
As we toil to do kind deeds for them,
May we do it faithfully as unto Him,
May we count it a privilege and never a loss,
As we seek to follow and take up the cross,
May we carry it faithfully until the end,
For Jesus, Our Saviour Lord and Friend.
