When earthly Kings come to the throne,
With honor, glory all their own,
With royal garments, gaily clad,
Royal throne, and hearts most glad.
Lovely crowns, they are given to wear,
Placed upon them with greatest care,
Some with gold and silver made,
Some with jewels are o'er laid.
Honor, respect on them bestow,
Many before them curtsy low,
When they ascend upon the throne,
It is a sight most grand, I own.
The King of Kings and Lord of Lords,
No such grandeur for Him affords,
His crown was made with many thorns,
And blood is all, that them adorns.
Pressed down, it was, upon His brow,
And in mockery, they, before Him bow,
They hail Him King, and spit upon,
The sinless one, He was God's Son.
What shame, what misery He bore,
Yet without murmur, the Crown He wore,
The sacred brow was pierced and torn,
No nobler head a crown had worn.
He wore the cruel Crown for me,
Before He went to Calvary,
Let us make haste with Angel wings,
To Crown Him Lord, and King of Kings.
